Two hours off the coast of Cutler, Maine lies Seal Island, a small, bare, unobtrusive pile of rocks. Waves thrash the shoreline and the icy northern wind is a constant companion. Yet every year this inhospitable island becomes a place of respite for a vast number of seabirds. The small research center on the island allows small numbers of visitors each year to spend an hour in their viewing blinds and experience a world that few ever get to see.
